Berat

Located in southern Albania, Berat is one of the country’s most distinctive and culturally rich destinations. Known as the “City of One Thousand Windows,” it is a key stop for Albania group tours and Balkan itineraries. With its well-preserved architecture, historic quarters, and natural surroundings, Berat fits seamlessly into cultural and multi-day travel programs.

Historic Architecture
Berat is divided into three main areas: the castle, the Mangalem quarter, and the Gorica quarter. Together, they reflect a blend of Ottoman, Byzantine, and Albanian architectural influences.
This layout makes Berat one of the best-preserved examples of traditional urban development in Albania.
Berat Castle
Berat Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the 4th century BC. It stands as the city’s main landmark and offers panoramic views over Berat and the surrounding landscape.
Within its walls, visitors can explore historic churches, mosques, and residential areas, making it a central highlight for cultural tours.
Onufri Museum
Located inside the castle, the Onufri Museum showcases religious icons and artifacts, offering insight into the region’s artistic and spiritual heritage.
Mangalem and Gorica Quarters
The Mangalem and Gorica quarters represent the traditional character of Berat. Mangalem is known for its Ottoman-style houses, while Gorica offers a quieter atmosphere with views across the river.
These areas are ideal for walking tours and provide an authentic insight into local life.
Cobblestone Streets and Bridges
Berat’s narrow cobblestone streets and historic stone bridges crossing the Osum River create a well-preserved setting, ideal for cultural exploration and photography.
Holy Trinity Church
The Holy Trinity Church is a landmark located on a hillside overlooking the city, recognized for its distinctive architecture and scenic position.
Nature and Surroundings
Berat is surrounded by natural attractions such as the Osum Canyon and Mount Tomorr. These locations are suitable for hiking, trekking, and outdoor excursions.
The combination of culture and nature makes Berat a strong addition to Albania and Balkan itineraries.
